Okay, we could get behind the Elvis Presley song and even the moon landing footage, but this is just weird. Gran Turismo 7’s prestige vehicles, Legend Cars, will have their in-game prices dynamically altered by real-world insurance and valuation specialists, Hagerty. This means, as the price of a specific model changes in real-life, those fluctuations will be reflected in-game.
You’ll find Hagerty branding all over the virtual dealership that houses the Legend Cars, and even company CEO McKeel Hagerty will make a cameo. The idea is that the in-game prices – which range anywhere from 150,000 Credits to 20,000,000 Credits – will rise and fall in lockstep with their real-world counterparts. We think this is innocent, but given the news on the release’s controversial microtransactions, it doesn’t take a cynic to start raising eyebrows.
Even more weirdly, if you’re a member of the Hagerty Drivers Club, you can redeem a voucher granting you a free car from the Legend Cars dealership – complete with an exclusive livery. Look, we understand that promotional crossovers are part-and-parcel with Gran Turismo, but this one seems a bit OTT to us.

Am I here early?
"by Sammy Barker Tomorrow 00:00".
Literally what it says up top haha.
Absolutely horrible idea. This is surely just baby steps into an NFT model? It’s very very similar to having your FIFA cards be graded by the real life card valuation nonsense.
There's been a lot of fishy stuff going on under the hood (heh) with this game...I'm expecting even more things like these to slowly creep up over the course of the game's life.
This kind of crap is why I'm completely against PlayStation tripling down on live services.
So if I play this game in 10 years, it'll be a lot easier than people playing today because these 2022 model cars will all be dirt cheap?
I think this might be a step too far GT. Maybe it's just me but I thought it's supposed to be a driving simulator, not a car dealership simulator...
They're really going hard for the extra cash grabs and it's pretty disgusting all the mechanics implemented. Plus no guaranteed car from the daily marathon anymore, that's now a 1 in 5 chance!
And here I thought you were looking forward to Sony's live service games.
I want video games as an escapism, not interlaced with real world inflation.
Had to google what the hell OTT meant. English is not my main language so I had no idea. You always learn something new I guess.
And yeah. Just reading the title I thought about the microtransactions.
It seems as like with DLC, it's just something that it's not going anywhere any time soon. Maybe never which seems more likely every day.
@Lup don't worry, as a native English speaker, I have no idea what ott means either.
@Milktastrophe over the top
@Deadlyblack Apparently there's a demand for turning videos games into something you'll maybe need a business degree to participate in. The head honcho of SE basically found it strange that people play games just to have fun 🤷
I just hope the next step is not nft, where PD will say you can buy and sells your digital cars 😕
I hope sony single players game didn't start to add mtx and limit this mtx stuff to their multiplayer offering only.
"You’ll find Hagerty branding all over the virtual dealership that houses"
Well there's your answer.
I'd do a money glitch before I bought currency in this game.
Knowing the devs, it’s just a way to be more closely integrated into the real world auto industry. For other publishers it’ll be a way yo “encourage” purchases by making people think it’s a good deal at certain times compared to others. So generally a bad practice.
Until reading the comments, I didn't realise GT7 had MTX and purchasable in-game credits.
Glad I didn't preorder.
Hard pass from me, for now.
Just because something is “clever” or “innovative” doesn’t mean it’s a good idea it seems this is one of those cases. When MTX invaded GT years ago I was against it. When they rotated the cars you could buy and you just could let buy what you wanted - I was against it. They seem to want to take the joy out of the game and not make it more joyful. It looks pretty and they get so much right but off the track they do nearly everything wrong and for solo players the meat and bones is the stuff you can go off the track.
Why people are so up in arms over MTX I don’t know…:: they’ve been in since GT5 haven’t they? They’ve certainly been in the last couple
I’m against them myself but they’ve been there for years in this game series it’s not new
This points to seeing an auction house in the game in the future.
Can anyone remember which game did this before?
Googled it. Forza let you buy and sell at auction.
Great so I won't even be able to afford them in a damn video game.
@nessisonett Dont worry the new generation does not know any better so its already a lost battle. Im having fun with my singleplayer games and im good with that.
Microtransaction where a massive outrage and its all accepted now, fighting games with several seasonpasses accepted, only digital games with no trace of ownership accepted, seasonpasses announced before the release of a new game accepted, broken games will be defended by the fanbase.
Face it we are no longer customers but consumers and they dont care if we like it or not. Digital for preservation we already know thats ***** the Battle is lost.
@Juanalf That one was shocking and shows that the suits have no respect for the customer or as we are called now consumer.
I thought only MS first party titles on Gamepass had filthy monetisation like this? Now Sony first party games costing £70!? Shocked I am, shocked. Not really 🤣
So they are trying to make a FIFA for Cars basically. Do they have enough of a car fanatic gaming customer base to do what FIFA can though?
@Lup I also hate those shortcuts... seems too stupid.
All I want to do is race a car. Everything else is window-dressing
If MTX weren't there this would be a fun if weird idea but as MTX are there well we can see the real idea here.
It was suspicious when the announcement came about no offline mode and now its very clear this is the reason there's no offline mode (car prices get adjusted server side and everyone sees those prices, offline mode would mean offline players see different prices to online mode). This is a shady move by Sony for sure.
Oh ffs here we go now I know why this game needs the Internet 🙄
So now I can be too poor to buy a Ferrari both in real life and my video games
@Flaming_Kaiser This basically is a single player mode being affected though. So it’s worse than even you’re saying.
GT7: Your new grind or your new money pit. You decide. But first that'll be $80 please.
sigh, how did video games get like this?
Edit: can't believe i used the wrong "your" there. that's mortifying.
@nessisonett yup, this is clearly laying potential NFT groundwork. I'm going to completely pass on this game
As a consumer who was planning on a Platinum trophy for this game, I am officially hoping our global market tanks!
I’m passing on this for now. Loved the other games but I have so many games to play at the moment I can miss this without any issues.
@nessisonett I dont know is it impossible to get the cars without MT is the challenge unfair is it more grindy then the other parts i have no idea. I noticed with the new AC games and im not that great with GT im more bothered with no offline saves and no options to back up saves locally on a PS5.
I don't understand what the big deal is here... sounds like another trait that will make GT more realistic, sounds pretty cool actually
@AtaurRaziq if they wanted to make the game more realistic why not allow damage to cars when they crash
@Would_you_kindly damage would be nice sure, but we're not talking about damage here. I don't understand the point of this comment
I'm open to change, to something different. And this is something different. I have the option to grind, not uncommon in games for years, or buy some in-game currency with real cash to short-circuit that a bit. Again, something that's been around for years. My choice. You can tune cars to crazy degrees so you don't really benefit from buying the rare cars. It's just something some people like to do. An extra dimension of the game.
Rather than just a static array of cars and prices, something we've had for ages, we now have something more dynamic. I'm not sure why people automatically see that as a bad thing or a cash grab. Why not wait and see?
As for damage, any number of games provide that. GT doesn't, never has and probably never will. The whole point is to not crash or make contact. Appeals to some, not others.
I never get the outrage unless it's a full msrp game with pay to win mechanics. If this game can be played in its entirety and you can be competitive then Just. Don't. Buy. And if you're a super into cars and they hid your fav behind an MT then I bet youre willing to pay. I don't like shady practices and am not here to condone them. But plenty must be purchasing the MTs because they haven't disappeared.
Removed - trolling/baiting
I haven't played a GT game since GT5. I guess that won't be changing anytime soon. GT4 is the best in the series.
Good to see no one in the media is explaining that the MXT in GT7 are completely optional and NOT NEEDED AT ALL if you plan on actually playing the game (keep up the good work everyone). You make plenty of credits through normal play to buy 90% of the cars in the game and you may have to grind a bit — not a lot — for the other 10%. But grinding in this game just means more racing, which is the entire point of the game. So unless you’re buying a racing game so you can skip all the racing and just collect all the cars as fast as possible then you have ZERO NEED to ever buy a the microtransactions.
If you’re buying the game to collect all the cars ASAP and don’t care about the actual racing to the point where you spend real money on your favorite cars then maybe you should just do a Google image search for the car you want. Because that’s essentially what you’re getting if you’re not doing actual racing: you’re spending real world money on a jpeg you could have for free.
Remember when games were just games?
@ATaco and I know from the start what they were planning for this game, it's like a old fool using the same tricks over and over 🙄🙄😤😤
@NinjaWaddleDee fortunately not anymore but there are simple games out there that I've enjoyed recently that doesn't contain live services or pay to win tactics!
@IMustardMitt gran turismo 6 was the last decent game in the series before they went AWOL on this nonsense, even ridge Racer in its final days attempted this tactic and is one of the reason we don't have any new ridge racers anymore
At some point during development, they would need to consult a real-world source to price their cars realistically instead of just making it up. Post-release, I see no problem keeping that information updated with the same source. For a multi-year supported game, this seems important.
As for the micro-transactions in the game, as I see it, they are simply shortcuts for those that don't want to earn the credits with gameplay. If they were a paywall to exclusive content, then that would be a problem.
Maybe there are people that actually follow the pricing of cars and it seems neat that the real-world would have a direct effect in the game. I have no idea what factors affect the prices of cars... maybe when someone hears about some issue with a particular car in the news, they can go check if the car price decreases in game?
Of course, they could make certain cars TIME LIMITED and super expensive so that unless already have the credits, you have no choice but to use real money to meet the deadline.
I could imagine them releasing an exclusive car/styling for only Christmas and so people use up a lot of credits to get that. But then they release something else for New Year Day and people had already used up their credits on Christmas...
Is the w124 500e as Hagerty's youtube included in lengendary? If it is this game is sooo sooo bad! It shouldnt be it! Come on u can do better. If its not then yeah whatever. I just want to get into GR86, MX5, and 911 GT3 and smash my steering wheel so I can change to new ones. TM built this thing to last and it just got approved for ps5, ffs.
Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. Car prices fluctuate due to so many real world factors that have no bearing on the game. This is just predation disguised as cool tech, especially given the global state of inflation we currently find ourselves in. That’ll be a no from me.
What's, no Crypto or NFT tie-in? Despite my life-long love of this series, I'm really glad I've passed this up. Forza is far more relaxing and lacking in weirdness.
Does the price of gas affect the price? Real world availability of components, chips, or parts?
